Last night, Ray and I had the pleasure of seeing Miss Nancy Wilson in performance with the supremely talented Ramsey Lewis.

What can I say about Miss Wilson that hasn't already been said? She's the epitome of elegance. While her vocal range has grown deeper with age, her phrasing and tone are still stunning. She sang a few numbers from her album with Cannonball Adderley, including "Never Will I Marry," one of the tunes that made me an instant fan when I heard it playing while in the record store. That was one of the tunes I performed with the 1150 Trio in "I Swing Like That."

To my absolute delight, Ramsey Lewis and his trio were fan-tas-tic! During their mini-set they performed a medley of spirituals that had me rockin' Sunday-morning-in-the-pew style, all hinging on Ramsey's gritty yet nuanced key tickling. Leon Joyce, the drummer, was outta sight! I can't wait for their new CD to come out later this spring.

Two weeks from tonight, I'll be performing at Rasselas Jazz Club in San Francisco. Check us out!

Mommy, have fun! I'll be thinking about you every day!
