there's no place like home

okay, this is the last thing i'm gonna say about the election for a while. stop all the talk of moving to canada, already (lovely country that it is, though)! aside from having to pay $1500 in bureacracy fees alone, we need to stay right here and fight the good fight. first of all, let's take a lesson in humilty - how many times have we on the left looked down our noses at folks in the working class/middle america/suburbs/bible belt? these are the very people who swung to the right - they "don't get us", and we in the "cultural elite" would rather scoff at them while sipping our chardonnay (i personally prefer pinot noir grape juice). how many times have you thought you were better than? some of them are our compatriots and we need to build stronger alliances with them.

now is the time to roll up our sleeves, figure out what it really means to be american (even as problemmatic as that term is), and get to work on enacting our vision of a more inclusive, fairer, more human, and healthier nation. remember that the mighty wizard of oz, behind the smoke and fire and rage, was revealed to be a sham, a nobody. dorothy, once she stopped whimpering, was the one with all the power. there's no place like home. there's no place like home.
