we're witnesses to a historical moment with the selection of the new pope. imagine being the 16th of anything! even though i have no connection to the catholic church and think these things are arcane, this process is interesting to me for no other reason than the pomp and ritual, like when john paul II was elected or when charles and di got married. i was certain of one thing, though: that hell would freeze over before the cardinals elected cardinal arinze to the helm.
